Indonesia consumers optimistic on economy

JAKARTA, Sept. 6 (BSS/Xinhua) — Consumers in Indonesia remain upbeat on
economy, albeit the consumer confident index dropped in August, a survey of
the central bank showed on Thursday.

Indonesian central bank consumer confidence index in August fell to 121.6
from 124.8 in July.

The reading in August remains above 100, suggesting consumers are
optimistic on the economy.

The optimism was boosted by the consumers’ expectation on the economy in
several months ahead.

The annualized core inflation rate inched up 2.90 percent in August from
2.87 percent in July, according to data from the national statistics bureau.

Consumption accounts for more than half of the gross domestic product
growth in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government estimated the economy to increase 5.2 percent
this year after logging a 5.07 percent growth last year.
