Six charge-sheeted over death of 2 students in city road crash

DHAKA, Sept 6, 2018 (BSS) – A charge-sheet was submitted before a Dhaka court today against six persons including owner of the killer passenger bus in the case regarding deaths of two college students in a road accident in the capital’s Airport Road on July 29.

“We submitted a charge-sheet today accusing six people including Md Shahadat Hossain, owner of killer bus, Jabale-e-Noor, before a Dhaka court in the case relating to death of two college students in a road accident on Airport Road,” additional police commissioner (Detective Branch-DB) Md Abdul Baten told newsmen at DMP’s media centre here.

The five other charge-sheeted accused in the case are driver of Jabale-e-Noor, Md Masum Billah, his helper Enayet Hossain, driver of another bus taking part in the race, Md Zobair Sumon, his helper Asad Kazi and owner of another bus Md Jahangir Alam.

Of the accused, Masum Billah, Enayet Hossain, Shahadat Hossain and Zobair Sumon are now in jails while two others have been shown fugitives.

Masum Billah, Zobair Sumon and Shahadat Hossain gave confessional statements under section 164 before the court.

The DB in its investigation found that the accident was taken place due to mad race of two passenger buses, the official also said.

The charge-sheet was submitted under sections 304, 279 and 34 of the Penal Code. Section 304 refers to life term imprisonment while section 279 for reckless driving and section 34 for common intention.

In accordance with section 304 of the Penal Code, whoever commits culpable homicide not amounting to murder, shall be punished with [imprisonment] for life, or imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine, if the act by which the death is caused is done with intention of causing death, or of causing such bodily injury as is likely to cause death.

On 29 July, two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College – Abdul Karim alias Rajib Uddin,18, a student of class-XII, and Dia Khanam Mim,17, an 11th grader – were run over during a mad race between two buses of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan on Dhaka’s Airport Road.

Agitated people torched the two buses and triggered a widespread protest by the students demanding justice for their fellows and road safety.

Dia’s father Jahangir Hossain Fakir filed a case with Cantonment police station to this end.
