Janmashtami observed in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Sept 2, 2018 (BSS) – Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birth day of lord Sree Krishna, was observed here today with pomp and gaiety and due religious fervor.

Different socio-cultural and religious organizations chalked out elaborate programs to celebrate the day.

The programs included recitation from holy Geeta, worshiping of Sree Krishna, bringing out of traditional Janmashtami processions, holding of discussion meeting and offering of special prayers for welfare of the nation and the country.

A colorful Janmashtami procession was brought out in the district town in the morning from Norosingho Zior Akra temple under the auspices of district Janmashtami celebration committee.

Deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy, MP, accompanied by front ranking AL leaders including district AL president Matiur Rahman Khan led the Janmashtami procession.

A large number of Hindu devotees including civil society members joined the procession which after parading the main roads of the town ended at Norosingha Zior Akra temple at Borobazer.

A discussion meeting on “the eventful life of lord Sree Krishna” was held at the Norosingho Zior Akra temple premises at noon. Dputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy, MP, addressed it as chief guest with president of district Janmashtami celebration committee Subrota Ray ManiK was in the chair.

It was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona zila parishad Prasanta Kumar Ray, police super Joydeb Chowdhory, mayor of Netrakona pourasava Nazrul Islam Khan and central committee member of Bangladesh Puja celebration committee Kashob Ranjan Sarker.
