2nd South Asia Maritime and Logistics Forum in city in Oct

DHAKA, Aug 30, 2018 (BSS) – The second South Asia Maritime and Logistics Forum (SAMLF) Conference-2018 will be held at the Hotel Le Meridian in the city on October 9-10.

The Shipping Ministry of Bangladesh in association with the Gateway Media (Pvt) Ltd of India and Colombo International Maritime Conference Event (CIMC) of Sri Lanka will organize the conference, said an official release here.

The information was revealed following an inter-ministerial meeting held at Shipping Ministry with its Secretary Abdus Samad in the chair at the secretariat today, the release added.

Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Riyaz Hamidullah, Chief Editor and Publisher of Indian ‘Maritime Gateway’ magazine Ramprasad Rabi and high officials of different ministries and agencies attended the meeting, among others.

According to the release, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the conference as the chief guest.

Ministers, secretaries and higher officials of shipping sector related trade and industry of 20 countries including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan will attend the function.

Development and possible investment in shipping sector in Bangladesh, solution of barriers in regional trade in South Asia and importance of development of the South Asian ports to meet growing demand, including ship building, dredging and others related to the sector will be discussed in the two-day forum.

The first SAMLF conference was held in Mumbai, India, in September last
year.
