Venerable Ajitananda Mohastabir passes away

CHITTAGONG, Aug 30, 2018 (BSS) – Venerable Ajitananda Mohastabir, most
reverent religious leader of the Buddhists and president of the Sangaraj
Bhikkhu Mohasabha (Monastic order), died at Chattogram Medical College
Hospital (CMCH) this morning at the age of 82.

Mohastabir breathed his last at ICU of CMCH around 9am due to old age
complications, hospital sources said.

The death of great monastic personality and high priest of Ichakhali
Ashokaram Vihar (monastery) as well as founder of Dharmaratna orphanage,
Rangunia cast a pall of gloom in the entire Buddhist community.

Hundreds of Buddhists monks, his followers, admirers and devotees from
far flung corners of the country thronged CMCH to have last respect to the
religious leader.

Masters in Pali language and literature and an expert on Buddhism late
Ajitananda was born in December 6, 1936 and ordained as a novice monk by
Rajguru pundit Dharmaratna Mohastabir in 1958.

Sangaraj Bhikkhu Mohasabha, a council of the monastic order conferred
him with commander -in chief of religion and Sanga Bandhu (friend of monastic
council) for his outstanding contribution to the Buddhist community and
welfare of the hermits.

The mortal remains of the late Mohastabir was taken to Chandgaon
Sarbojonin Shakkymuni Vihar where the first condolence meeting will be held
there this afternoon, said Secretary General of the Sanga council S Lokojit
Thero.

The body later will be preserved and placed into casket for ceremonial
cremation to be held at convenient time.
