Vietnam’s petrol, LPG import surges in 8 months

 

HANOI, Aug. 30, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Vietnam imported 8.6 million tons of oil and petroleum products totaling over 5.7 billion U.S. dollars from January to August, up 26.4 percent in value against the same period last year, the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Thursday.

 

In the eight-month period, Vietnam imported 972,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) worth 563 million U.S. dollars, up 2.9 percent, and 23.1 percent, respectively.

 

The country also spent 642 million U.S. dollars importing other products made from oil, up 10.9 percent. Meanwhile, it exported over 2.6 million tons of crude oil valued at 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, seeing respective year-on-year falls of 46.6 percent and 26.6 percent respectively.

 

In 2017, Vietnam imported over 12.8 million tons of oil and petroleum products totaling 7 billion U.S. dollars, and roughly 1.4 million tons of LPG worth 732 million U.S. dollars, according to its General Statistics Office.
