PM to meet Modi on the margins of BIMSTEC summit

DHAKA, Aug 29, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hold a fringe meeting with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the 4th Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) to be held August 30-31 in Kathmandu.

This was revealed today by State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam at a press briefing focusing on different features of the summit at the foreign ministry in the capital.

“It’s expected that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other regional leaders on the sidelines of BIMSTEC summit,” Shahriar said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to leave here for Kathmandu on Thursday morning to attend the two-day BIMSTEC summit with the theme “Towards a Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region”.

Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the summit on Thursday afternoon at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu with the participation of the leaders of the seven-nation regional grouping that constitutes a bridge between South and South East Asia and represents a reinforcement of relations among these countries.

All the heads of state or government of the BIMSTEC member countries will get a chance for holding bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit on Friday.
