Tsunami warning for three Pacific islands after quake
SYDNEY, Aug 29, 2018 (BSS/AFP) – Tsunami waves up to one metre (3.2 feet)
could hit New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu after a strong earthquake in the
Pacific Ocean Wednesday, seismologists warned.
After the 7.1 magnitude quake that struck off the eastern coast of New
Caledonia “waves reaching 0.3 to 1 metre above the tide level are possible”,
the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
