National polls to be held as per constitution: Tofail

DHAKA, August 28, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said the next parliamentary elections will be held under the present government in accordance with the constitution.

“The next election will be held with the participation of all political parties. The election will be held as per the constitution,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on “Political Economy of Bangladesh (1952-2041) and Relevance of the National Mourning Day” at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in the city.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and former Secretary M Abdul Hannan delivered keynote speeches at the discussion.

FBCCI President M Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) and FBCCI vice-president and directors were present on the occasion.

Tofail said an election-time government will be formed as per the constitution which will provide all-out cooperation to the Election Commission to conduct the election.

“The election-time government will perform routine works and the Election Commission will conduct the election,” he added.

The commerce minister urged all to take decisions and preparations for the next general election imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation.

He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is moving forward as per the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
