DHAKA, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – The design of front end mask and colour exterior scheme of the first ever elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 has been completed.
“As per our plan to start metro rail operation from Uttara to Agargaon section by December 2019, the detailed design for rolling stock (rail coach) and depot equipment has been completed,” Managing Director of DMTCL M A N Siddique told BSS here today.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) has finalized its design of front end mask and colour exterior scheme, he said, adding, “We have decided to put in red and green colour in the design and colour exterior scheme of the MRT Line-6.”
The MRT Line-6 is an elevated system to be implemented under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, which will run from Uttara to Motijheel and carry some 60,000 passengers per hour in a day, Siddique said.
“Once the metro rail is complete, it will be the most time-efficient, reliable, safe, comfortable and environment-friendly solution. It will transform Dhaka into a more active, commute-friendly, and sustainable city,
he added.
According to the project detail, the MRT Line-6 is being implemented at a cost of about Taka 22,000 crore. Of the amount, JICA is providing Taka 16,500 crore, while the rest of the fund would come from the government exchequer.
It said the 20.1-kilometer MRT Line-6 will run from Uttara Third Phase and pass through Pallabi, the west side of Rokeya Sarani and Farmgate, Hotel Sonargaon, Ruposhi Bangla, TSC of Dhaka University, Doel Chattar, Topkhana Road and Bangladesh Bank.
The DMTCL is working day and night-to unveil the Uttara-Agargaon section of the metro rail project.
Agargaon to Motijheel section of the metro rail will be completed by December 2020, ahead of the scheduled time and it is being constructed to make life easier for city dwellers.
According a DMTCL official, to maintain and use MRT Line-6 properly, an international-standard rolling stock will be deployed. The line will feature 24 sets of trains, and each set, initially, will consist of six cars-with a plan to expand them to eight cars per set in the future.
