BNP must participate in polls for existence: Tofail
DHAKA, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said BNP has to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections for its existence.
“We hope all parties will join the upcoming election. BNP’s existence will be at stake if it does not join the next general election,” he said at a function of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the DU campus.
“The government will not interfere in the election. So we hope all parties including BNP will join the election,” the minister said.
“The election will be held according to the constitution, under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Tofail said.
He also said that if someone wants to destroy the country’s economy in the name of hartal, strikes or movement, law enforcement agencies will take proper action against them.
The BCL DU unit organized a photography and documentary exhibition titled “Bangabandhu means Bangladesh” marking the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of the Arts Faculty Building on the campus.
About 100 photos were displayed and a documentary based on Bangabandhu’s life and the liberation war was screened in the exhibition.
BCL DU Unit’s General Secretary Saddam Hussain called upon the DU administration to arrange an international conference on Bangabandhu’s life and establish a museum for preserving his memory.
Dhaka Universy Teachers’ Association’s president ASM Makaus Kamal, BCL central President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, General Secretary Golam Rabbani, Shamsul Haque Foundation’s president Afia Begum and BCL DU unit’s president Sonjit Chandra Das, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
