Pabna’s college girl Mukti dies at DMCH

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – After ten days of hectic fighting for life, the
Pabna Edward College girl, who was set on fire over rivalry, died at Dhaka
Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early today.

The deceased, Mukti Khatun, 22, daughter of freedom fighter Mozammel Haque
of Nagdemra in Santhia Upazila in Pabna, was a second-year student of
Philosophy.

Mukti, who sustained 60 percent burn injuries, breathed her last at the
intensive Care Unit of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the DMCH around
12:30am, inspector (investigation) Abdul Majid of Santhia Police Station told
BSS today.

“We have already arrested 24 accused out of 32 in a case filed by the
victim’s father,” he said, adding that they are on hot pursuit to capture the
key accused Abdus Salam.

On August 18, a group of people, led by Abdus Salam, allegedly attacked
Mukti’s house and set her on fire after pouring petrol on her body when male
family members were out of the house.

She was first admitted to local health complex and later was transferred to
DMCH.

The attack was carried out following an enmity between Mozammel and his
neighbor Abdus Salam over capturing a water body in their village.
