ACC’s drives in public offices help reduce corruption

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – The drives of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)
in public offices have been playing vital role in curbing corruption and
irregularities and ensuring hassle-free services, an official said today.

“As a part of the initiative to ensure the rule of law at the public
offices, the ACC has started conducting drives over allegations of corruption
received by ACC hotline 106,” said ACC’s Director General (admin) and
coordinator of enforcement teams Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.

The ACC must have to ensure uninterrupted services to the people by
conducting such drives for making the public offices free from corruption, he
added.

As part of the initiative, the commission on Sunday conducted the second
drive at Dhaka civil surgeon office in a month to oversee its activities
after ACC’s first drive there, ACC officials said.

This time, the ACC has found the Dhaka civil surgeon office relatively
corruption free and more service oriented which was seen indulging in
corruption in their previous raid on July 26 last, they added.

At that time people were seen paying bribe of Taka 300 to 1000 for getting
health certificates.

In line with the ACC directive, the Dhaka civil surgeon office has
introduced registrar books and stopped exchanging of bribe in giving health
certificates.

The ACC has vowed to continue such drives in civil surgeon offices to
ensure corruption free services.

The sudden drives in public offices have emerged as an effective tool to
help people get hassle-free services since its inception in October 2017, the
officials continued.

“ACC will continue sudden drives at public offices to ensure smooth
services by stopping irregularities and corruption there,” Deputy Director
(public relations) and spokesperson of the commission Pranab Kumar
Bhattacharjee told BSS.

“The commission has so far conducted over 100 surprise visits to different
public offices since October 2017. The drives have been strengthened from
mid-June this year after getting a huge numbers of allegations over the ACC
hotline 106. ACC is now conducting surprise visits to different public
offices every day except weekly and public holidays,” he added.

The ACC official said two enforcement teams have been formed to conduct
sudden inspections in public offices to prevent bribery. Each of the teams
comprises of two members and headed by an assistant director level officer.
