Older citizens get Taka 256-cr allowance in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Aug 28, 2018 (BSS) – The government through the Department of Social Services (DSS) distributed Taka 256.02-crore as allowance among over 4.26-lakh older citizens of all eight districts under Rangpur division during the last fiscal year.

DSS Officials told BSS today that each of the beneficiary older male and female citizens received Taka 500 per month as old age allowance under the comprehensive social safety net programme of the government.

The DSS under the Ministry of Social Welfare distributed the allowance among the elderly citizens with a view to assisting them leading better life.

During the last fiscal, 71,776 elderly citizens got over Taka 43.06 crore in Rangpur, 76,577 older citizens got Taka 45.94 crore in Dinajpur, 66,410 citizens got Taka 39.84 crore in Gaibandha and 55,202 older persons got Taka 33.12 crore in Kurigram districts.

Besides, 45,679 older citizens got over Taka 27.40 crore in Lalmonirhat, 47,332 got Taka 28.40 crore in Nilphamari, 36,221 got Taka 21.73 crore in Thakurgaon and 27,509 elderly citizens got over Taka 16.50 crore in Panchagarh districts under the programme.

Deputy Director of the DSS here Abdur Razzaque told BSS that the allowance distribution programme would continue and the number of beneficiary older citizens might increase every year.

“The beneficiary citizens are leading better life by properly utilising the old age allowance being distributed by the present government for improving their livelihoods,” Razzaque added.
