Macao general unemployment rate stands at 1.8 pct from May to July
MACAO, Aug. 27, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Macao’s general unemployment rate
stood at 1.8 percent and the unemployment rate of local residents at 2.4
percent from May to July 2018, the special administrative region’s statistic
service said here on Monday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed
that both rate held stable as in the previous period of April, May and June.
The underemployment rate was 0.6 percent, up by 0.1 percentage point, it
added.
Total labor force was 392,600 and the labor force participation rate was
71.1 percent. Total employment was 385,500 and number of employed residents
totaled 284,300, both up by 100 from the previous period.
Analyzed by industry, employment in Real Estate and Business Activities
registered increase, while that in Wholesale and Retail Trade decreased.
Number of the unemployed was 7,100, up by 200 from the previous period.
With fresh graduates entering the labor market, the proportion of fresh labor
force in search of first job increased by 5.3 percentage points to 16.1
percent of the total unemployed.
In comparison with the same period in 2017, the labor force participation
rate and the unemployment rate dropped by 0.3 and 0.2 percentage points
respectively while the underemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points.
