Eid bonus, salaries paid in all factories: BGMEA
DHAKA, Aug 20, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) today claimed Eid bonus and salary for the month of July had been paid in cent percent factories.
“BGMEA’s all member factories completed the payment by today,” said its first vice president Moinuddin Ahmed at a press conference at the association office in Dhaka.
Apart from the bonus and salary for July, most of the factories in consultation with the labourers also paid advance salary for 10-15 days of the month of August, he added.
Earlier, the BGMEA’s 15 monitoring committees in Dhaka after closely monitoring identified some 700 factories, which were suspected of vulnerable to payment of salaries and bonus.
“The committee members closely monitored the vulnerable factories for one month,” Ahmed said.
He said BGMEA also lobbied with the banks for obtaining emergency fund for 21 factories, which were identified as “most vulnerable” ones in payment of salaries and bonus to the workers.
The BGMEA crisis management committees worked along with the government monitoring committees across the country, added the first vice president.
The owners also announced holidays for the workers in phases so that they do not face any transport crisis. “Every worker can go home with salaries and Eid bonus to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones,” said BGMEA’s another vice-president, Mohammed Nasir.
As of today, some 90 percent factory owners have declared Eid vacation and the rest of the factories will announce holiday from today, he added.
Other leaders of the sector were present at the press conference.
