BHOLA, Aug 20, 2018 (BSS)- Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said that the next general election will not remain stop if BNP doesn’t participate.

“BNP-Jamaat does not have such capacity to foil the election,” he said while addressing a roadside meeting in Guingarghat area under Uttar Digholdi union in Sadar upazila this noon.

Chaired by Uttar Digholdi Union Awami League (AL) President Khorshed Alam Matabbar, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Sadar Upazila AL President and Upazila Parishad Chairman M Mosharraf Hossain, Vice-Chairman Alhaj M Yunus Mia, District AL Joint General Secretary Zohirul Islam Nokib, Organising Secretary Moinul Hossain Biplob and local UP Chairman Liakat Hossain Monsur.

Tofail said BNP could not become successful in foiling the last general election in 2014 through killing police, presiding officers, torching booths. “So, if BNP does not take part in the ensuing election, then it will be similar to committing political suicide.”

He alleged that the BNP is still waiting for taking part in the next general election under the caretaker government. “But, caretaker government will not come in the country anymore. Such dream of BNP will never come true.”

Referring to the comments of some BNP leaders that they would join the polls after freeing their chief Khaleda Zia from jail, Tofail said the BNP chief is now in jail following a court verdict in a corruption case.

“If the court releases her (Khaleda), then she will be freed, otherwise the government has nothing to do with the matter,” the minister added.

The Awami League Advisory Council member also urged the local people to cast their votes for ‘Boat’, the election symbol of Awami League, in the next general election and thus give the party another chance to serve the nation under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
