Stocks witness upward ahead of Eid vacation

DHAKA, August 20, 2018 (BSS) – Ahead of a five-day Eid vacation, stock
markets witnessed upward trend on Monday as major indices of both Dhaka and
Chittagong Stock Exchanges rose up due to higher activities of the some
large-cap securities despite lower transactions.

The major rising sectors were financial institutions and textile. A total
of 155 large cap securities moved up due to higher activities.

DSEX, the major index of DSE, closed the day with 32.69 points up at
5,571.20. The DSES for Shariah based securities and the DS30 for blue chip
scrip also followed the same trend with a marginal rise to end at 1,257.64
and 1,948.16 respectively.

The daily trade value declined to Taka 445.32 crore from the previous
day’s Taka 560.57 crore and the volume witnessed a fall of 15.49 crore shares
from 20.84 crore shares.

Out of day’s 335 traded issues, prices of 198 securities closed higher
against 97 losing issues.

The day’s major gainers were Midas Finance, Shepherd, Saiham Textile,
SIMTEX and NHFIL. The day’s major losers were Aziz Pipes, Monno Ceramics,
Jute Spinning, Style Craft and Prime Finance.

Lanka Bangla Finance topped the turnover leaders followed by BBS
Cables, City Bank, NHFIL and Dhaka Bank.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also followed the same trend with its
CASPI index 105.96 points up at 17,111.22.

The daily trade value was Taka 28.45 crore and the volume was 1.29
crore shares.
