PM seeks more Chinese investment

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2018 (BSS) – Describing China as an important development
partner, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought more Chinese investment in
Bangladesh.

“China is our important development partner. So, we expect more Chinese
investment for further uplift of the country,” she said when the newly
appointed Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo paid a courtesy call on her
at her office here this afternoon.

After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed
reporters.

Sheikh Hasina said many mega projects are being implemented in Bangladesh
with the Chinese assistance.

“Land has been allocated in special economic zones, especially for the
Chinese investors, so that they can set up industries and factories there,”
she said.

Recalling Bangabandhu’s visits to China in 1952 and 1957, the prime
minister said a book on Bangabandhu’s these tours is awaiting for publish.

She informed Zhang Zuo that Chinese President Xi Jinping presented some
photos of Bangabandhu to her on her last visit to China.

The premier conveyed her greetings to the Chinese President as well as
the Prime Minister through the ambassador.

Zhang Zuo said China attaches very much importance to its relations with
Bangladesh.

The new envoy assured the prime minister that the Chinese embassy would
play its due role in taking forward the bilateral ties and further
strengthening the relations in the days to come.

Zhang Zuo highly appreciated Bangladesh’s development and progress
achieved under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said
Bangladesh is marching towards becoming “Sonar Bangla”.

The new Chinese ambassador paid tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled the visits of the great leader
to China.

He extended greetings to the prime minister on the occasion of the holy
Eid-ul-Azha.

Zhang Zuo also presented a book titled “Xi Jinping: The Governance of
China” to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

PM’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman was present at the meeting,
among others.
