BHOLA, Aug 19, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said that the BNP could not wage movement of its own and even the party had tried to make partisan the recent student movement for ensuring road safety.

“The innocent students have waged movement few days back for ensuring road safety. I personally also supported them. But, BNP tried to give that movement a partisan colour. BNP could not wage movement of its own,” he said.

The Minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting as chief guest marking the National Mourning Day at the Bhola Government College this noon.

Chaired by College Principal Parvin Akhter, the meeting was addressed, among others, by spouse of the Minister Anowara Ahmed, Sadar upazila Awami League President and upazila parishad chairman M Mosharraf Hossain, vice chairman Alhaj M Yunus Mia, district Awami League joint general secretary Zohirul Islam Nakib and organizing secretary Moinul Hossain Biplob.

Tofail, also the advisory council member of Awami League, said had Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman never been born on this soil, Bangladesh would have never emerged as an independent country.

Mentioning that Bangabandhu had spent a total of 4,682 days in prison, he said it was not the Pakistanis who had killed Bangabandhu, rather the killing was done by killers Mostaque and Zia.

The Commerce Minister also urged the youth force and the students to take decisions and preparations for the next general election imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated a science building, a commerce building, an administrative building and a hostel on the college campus. He responded positively to the demands of the students for constructing a hostel and an auditorium on the college campus.

Later, in another function at the sadar upazila parishad compound, the Commerce Minister distributed stipends among some 267 meritorious students at the secondary and dakhil level.
