President mourns death of Kofi Annan

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today condoled the
death of former Secretary General of United Nations (UN) Kofi Annan.

The nobel laureate died today at the age of 80.

In condolence message, the President expressed profound shock at the death
of Kofi Annan, a Ghanaian diplomat who served as UN Secretary General from
1997 to 2006.

“World people will remember Kofi Annan for his outstanding contribution to
establishing democracy and human rights,” he said.

Abdul Hamid also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed
sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Kofi Annan spent virtually his entire career as an administrator in the
United Nations. He served two terms as the Secretary-General from January 1,
1997 to December 31, 2006. Annan and the UN were jointly awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize in 2001.
