24 drug peddlers jailed in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Aug 17, 2018 (BSS) – Mobile courts sentenced 24 persons to various terms jail on charges of taking drugs and drug trading in five northern districts today.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 30 persons for their alleged involvement in drug dealing. Of them, 24 were awarded different terms punishment by mobile courts.
The elite force conducted drives in different areas of Natore, Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat districts and arrested 30 people, RAB officials said familiar with the drives.
The RAB personnel also seized 150 pieces of yaba tablets, 3.750 kilograms of ganja, 855 liters of country-made liquor and some other drugs-taking instruments from them.
Later, the arrested were produced before three separate mobile courts.
After examining evidences, the mobile courts sentenced 24 persons to jail. Four other detainees were fined Taka 20,000 and regular cases were filed against two others.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said different courts sent more than 152 drug addicts to jail during the last four days.
