4 Indian children drowned bathing in pond

NEW DELHI, Aug 16,2018 (BSS/XINHUA) — Four children aged between 8-12
years were drowned in a pond in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh,
police said Thursday.

According to officials, the four went to take bath in a pond in village
Barha of Pilbhit district, about 261 km north of Lucknow, the capital city of
Uttar Pradesh.

“Four children — two aged 12 years, one 10 years and another 8 years —
yesterday in the late afternoon went to take bath at a village pond here,”
said a police official posted in the district. “The four got drowned after
venturing into the depths of water.”

Following their drowning, locals alerted police and local administration
who rushed to the spot along with rescue teams.

According to officials, bodies of the four were fished out late on
Wednesday evening and handed over to their families.

The deaths descended a pall of gloom in the village and triggered panic
among residents.

Officials said the source of pond is rain water and locals often go
there to wash clothes and take bath.
