26 drug peddlers jailed in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Aug 15, 2018 (BSS)-Twenty six persons were sentenced to various
jail terms on charge of taking drugs and drug trading in four northern
districts on Tuesday.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 33 persons for their alleged
involvement in drug dealing. Of them, 26 were awarded different jail terms by
the mobile courts.
The elite force conducted drives in different areas of Rajshahi, Natore,
Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat districts and arrested them, RAB officials said
familiar with the drives.
The RAB personnel also seized 1093 pieces of yaba tablets, 300 liters of
country-made liquor, 6.12 kilograms of ganja and some other drugs-taking
instruments from their possession.
Later, the arrested were produced before four separate mobile courts.
After examining evidences, the mobile courts sentenced 26 persons to jail.
Regular cases were filed against five other detainees and two others were
fined Taka 8,000 each.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said
different courts sent more than 152 drug addicts to jail during the last four
days.
