VGF rice being distributed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 14, 2018 (BSS)-Distribution of a record quantity of 8,335.30
tonnes of rice under vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme among over
4.22-lakh families in the district is continuing to assist the poor
celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Abul Hayat said the
Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the rice for
distribution among card holder families in all eight upazilas and three
pourasabhas in the district.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives
and union level committees are distributing the rice among the listed VGF
card holder poor and distressed families under strict supervision of the
district administration.

“Each of the selected beneficiary family is receiving 20-kg VGF rice this
time on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha festivity in all 77 unions under the
district,” the acting DRRO added.

Under the programme, 537.30 tonnes of rice is being distributed among 26,865
beneficiary families in Sadar upazila, 1,782.02 tonnes among 89,101 families
in Mithapukur, 1,355 tonnes among 67,550 families in Pirganj, 1,094.06 tonnes
among 54,703 families in Pirgachha, 897.08 tonnes among 44,854 families in
Kawnia, 1,011.16 tonnes among 50,558 families in Gangachara, 1,112.48 tonnes
among 55,624 families in Badarganj and 545.98 tonnes among 27,299 families in
Taraganj upazilas.

Besides, the authorities concerned are distributing 61.62 tonnes VGF rice
among 3,081 poor and distressed families in Badarganj Pourasabha and 30.80
tonnes of rice among 1,540 families each in Haragachh and Pirganj
pourasabhas.

After getting VGF rice, beneficiaries Mahabbat Ali, Marjina Begum and Marium
Khatun expressed deep gratitude to the present government for distributing
the rice timely for assisting them in celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
