54 drug peddlers jailed in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Aug 14, 2018 (BSS) – Different mobile courts sentenced 54
persons to various jail terms on charge of taking drugs and drug trading in
five northern districts on Monday.
Earlier Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 63 persons for their alleged
involvement in drug dealing. Of them, 54 were awarded different jail terms by
mobile courts.
The elite force conducted drives in different areas of Rajshahi, Natore,
Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Joypurhat districts and arrested 63 people, RAB
officials said familiar with the drives.
The RAB personnel also seized 110 grams of heroin, 304 pieces of yaba
tablets, 450 liters of country-made liquor, 1.87 kilograms of ganja and some
other drugs-taking instruments from their possession.
Later, the arrested were produced before five separate mobile courts.
After examining the evidences, the mobile courts sentenced 54 persons to
jail. Regular cases were filed against seven other detainees and two others
were fined Taka 5,000 each.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said
different courts sent more than 98 drug addicts to jail during the last three
days.
