Bus routes to be rationalised for bringing discipline: Khokon
DHAKA, Aug 12, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor
Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today said the bus routes to be rationalised at the
quickest possible time to bring discipline in the transport sector.
“Rationalising of bus routes will be an effective initiative for ensuring
road safety,” he said in an inaugural function of ‘Clean and Safe Mobility’
programme at a city hotel.
The programme has initiated with the slogan “Our roads are safe in our
hands”.
He called upon the concerned ministries to take initiative in running all
the city buses under six companies to bring discipline in the transport
sector.
“Zebra crossings and lane separator dot solid roads at 92 intersections,
50 left u-turns, 32 right u-turns, and 600 traffic signs will be installed
under the programme,” he also said.
“Seventeen bus stops and passenger terminals will also be set up,” he
said, adding that vehicular image detector video cameras will be installed at
four intersections at Fulbaria in Gulishtan, Paltan, Mohakhali and Gulshan-1.
Speaking on the occasion, Architecture Mubasshar Hussein stressed the need
for executing the laws alongside with conducting awareness programmes to
ensure road safety.
