Two to die for murder in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Aug 12, 2018 (BSS) – Two persons including a woman were
sentenced to death and fined Tk 10,000 each for killing a woman in
Chapainawabganj.
The convicted persons are Abdul Mannan, 44, son of Kantu Mondol of
Mohonbag under Shibganj upazila and Sufia Begum, 35, daughter of Daud Ali of
Chowdhurypara under the same upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
Another accused in the case Abul Basar of Pithalitala in Shibganj
municipality was acquitted.
Additional district and session judge Shawkat Ali pronounced the verdict
this noon in presence of Abdul Mannan. Another convict Sufia Begum remained
absconding for long.
According to the prosecution story, Abdul Mannan in association with Sufia
called in a divorced woman Serena Khatun of Dewanjaigir village under
Shibganj upazila of the district tempting her of marriage on the fateful
night of September 10, 2014. After taking her to a mango orchard at Selimabad
of the same upazila they killed her by suffocating.
Later, they hung her dead body with a branch of a mango tree.
The victim’s son Arif filed a murder case with Shibganj thana on September
15 of the same year against the convicted persons.
Sub-inspector Lutfar Rahman of Shibganj thana submitted the charge sheet
to the court on May 31, 2015.
After hearing statements given by 13 witnesses the court handed down the
punishment.
