Call to sericulture scientists to be more practical

RAJSHAHI, Aug 11, 2018 (BSS)-Lawmakers and high administrative officials
here have unequivocally called for more pro-active sericulture related
scientific and industrial research for benefiting the public.

They viewed all the research and findings of those should be linked to the
private entrepreneurs for making those familiarized and accessible to all
concerned.

They were addressing a view-sharing meeting with officials, scientists and
researchers of Bangladesh Sericulture Research and Training Institute (BSRTI)
at its conference hall in the city on Friday.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles
and Jute Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Dr Enamur
Rahman, MP, Begum Sabina Akter Tuhin, MP, and Secretary to the Ministry of
Textiles and Jute Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury addressed the meeting as focal
persons.

Additional secretary of the ministry Gulnar Nazmun Nahar, director general
of Directorate of Jute Md Ismail, chairman of Handloom Board Mijanur Rahman,
director general of Bangladesh Silk Development Board (BSDB) Abdul Hakim and
BSRTI Director Syeda Jebinnissa Sultana were present at the meeting.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury has stressed the need for reviving the lost-glory
of silk through adopting need-based silk cultivation project.

He said silk is closely related to the life and culture of Rajshahi people
and that is why emphasis should be given to revitalising the sector by taking
effective measures to increase silk production.

Saber Chowdhury said the government is sincerely working to bring the lost-
glory of silk back and turn Bangladesh into its hub again. He asked the BSDB
and BSRTI authorities to take steps as per the proposal of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina to take the silk sector forward.

“If you work sincerely, the sector can be transformed into a profitable
one,” he added.

He also urged the scientists and researchers concerned to be more
practical and said the research outputs must be people-oriented. Conducting
valueless research by spending huge public money must be stopped, he added.

During the meeting, various issues relating to the activities of BSDB and
BSRTI were discussed elaborately.
