RANGPUR, Aug 10, 2018 (BSS) – Three union parishad (UP) chairmen have been
awarded here for their laudable contribution to power wastage prevention,
fuel saving, alternative fuel use, renewable fuel and use of solar power in
their respective areas.
The Rangpur Sadar upazila administration awarded the three UP chairmen on
behalf of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources at a function
arranged at upazila parisahd auditorium on Thursday afternoon.
Chairman of Sadar upazila parisahd Nasima Zaman Boby handed over crests and
citations of the Ministry to the award winners UP chairmen in the function as
the chief guest.
With Acting Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam in the chair,
Upazila Engineer Arefin Siddique, Upazila Project Implementation Officer
(PIO) Abdul Matin and Upazila Academic Supervisor Aftab Ahmed attended the
function as special guests.
The award winners UP Chairmen are: Aminur Rahman of Chandanpat union, Iqbal
Hossain of Haridebpur union and Masud Rana of Saddyapuskorini union under
Sadar upazila.
PIO Aminul Islam said over 900 solar power run lights have been set up in
these three unions during the last three fiscals in continuation of the
‘Power at every home’ programme, one of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10
special initiatives.
The solar power run lights were set up with assistance of the Ministry of
Disaster Management and Relief under the Cash for Work (KABITA), Test Relief
and Rural Infrastructure Maintenance programmes under auspices of the
Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
“The solar power run lights have been set up at roadsides, hats, bazaars,
hospitals, juncture of roads, educational institutions, mosques, temples and
other religious institutions and important places of these unions,” he said.
The chief guest said more solar power run lights would be set up at many
other points of these three unions during the current fiscal to further
reduce pressure on electricity as implementation of the programme was in
progress.
“The pressure on electricity and load-shedding has already reduced notably
in these three unions as a result of setting up of the solar power run lights
as an alternative power source,” she said.
