‘Political will needs for Rajshahi’s development’

RAJSHAHI, Aug 10, 2018 (BSS)-Professional and business leaders at a
participatory discussion here unanimously observed that political will and
proper decisions are very important to flourish the industrial sector of
Rajshahi for its overall development.

They viewed utmost emphasis should be given to improving living and
livelihood condition of people after the best uses of the existing resources
and potentialities so that they could contribute to the national development
process as a whole.

The observation came at a divisional seminar titled “Development Roadmap”
in the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI)
in Rajshahi city on Thursday.

Central Finance and Planning Sub-committee of Bangladesh Awami League
organized the seminar in the light of government’s Vision- 2021 and 2041.

Economic adviser to the prime minister and chairman of the sub-committee
Dr Moshiur Rahman and its secretary Tipu Munshi, MP, addressed the seminar as
focal persons.

Omor Faruque Chowdhury, MP, director general of Bangladesh Silk
Development Board Abdul Hakim, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Zila
Parishad Chairman Muhammad Ali Sarker, RCCI President Md Muniruzzaman,
Associate Professor Rashed Kabir of Department of Finance and Banking in
Rajshahi University and President of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners
Association Liakat Ali also spoke.

Dr Moshiur Rahman said the present government under the dynamic
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina intends to ensure a balance
development of the country. The government is also interested to develop
Rajshahi with requisite support.

Lawmaker Faruque Chowdhury called upon the government to flourish the
industrial sector in Rajshahi for infusing dynamism into its economic
activities.

“I urge the government to provide 10 percent incentives to the
entrepreneurs who are interested to set up industries here,” he added
underscoring the need for bringing all other existing potential sectors under
budgetary allocation.

Referring to enormous prospects of setting up of agro-based industries
here, the lawmaker said need-based steps should be taken in this regard as
early as possible.

Building economic zone has become the demand of time, he added. The MP
underlined the need for launching direct railway communication between
Rajshahi and Kolkata like Khulna.

Chowdhury opined that if Rajshahi Airport was upgraded to international
standard various agro-products could be exported to various foreign countries
including the Middle East nations from here directly.
