Int’l Day of World’s Indigenous People observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 9, 2018 (BSS)- The International Day of the World’s
Indigenous People-2018 was observed here today with a call to ensure rights
of the ethnic communities to education, health and land for their development
in the society.

A number of organisations of the ethnic community people chalked out
programmes comprising of rally, tribal dance, music, discussions and cultural
functions at different places in the district on the occasion.

In the Rangpur city, Sadar Adibashi Unnayan Sangathan (SAUS) brought out a
colourful rally from Dharmodas Kuthirpara Adibashi Polli with participation
of ethnic community people of all ages, including students, teachers, men and
women.

Later, the main discussion was arranged at local Adibashi Community Centre
in Dharmodas Kuthirpara Adibashi Polli with Panel mayor of Rangpur and City
Councilor (Ward No-31) Shamsul Haque in the chair.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa led the rally and attended the
discussion as the chief guest.

City Councilor (Ward No-32) Syed Mahbub Morshed Shamim and City Councilor
from reserved ward Nazmun Nahar Nazma, Vice-president of Adibashi and Dalits
Sangathan Partho Bose, Awami League Leader Shahadat Hossain addressed as
special guests.

Local leaders of the ethnic communities Barnbas Hembrom, Rabi Risku and
university and college level students Suprova Prima Minz, Joy Pahan, Romim
Kingson and Shatabdi Hembrom also spoke.

The speakers stressed on ensuring fundamental rights of the ethnic
communities to free them from all sorts of deprivations to accelerate their
development for mainstreaming in the society.

Barnbas Hembrom laid emphasis on ensuring rights of the ethnic communities
to health and resources and enacting necessary law to protect their land
rights for their socioeconomic welfare.

The chief guest stressed on mainstreaming the ethnic communities through
making them competent in all aspects by ensuring literacy, education, health
services and social empowerment so that they could attain their rights on
their own.

“The ethnic community people should be given necessary opportunities of
enjoying their fundamental human and constitutional rights for development of
their socio-economic condition,” he said.
