2-day UN workshop on water held

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2018 (BSS)- A two-day workshop of the United Nations (UN)
Water Global Analysis and Assessment (GLAAS) on Sanitation and Drinking Water
ended here today, marking the launch of ‘TrackFin’ pilot project in
Bangladesh.

TrackFin is a method developed by WHO (World Health Organization) to
track WASH financing flows at national and sub-national levels, a UNICEF
press release said.

TrackFin will produce Bangladesh’s first ever comprehensive national WASH
accounts that will estimate expenditures on different sub-categories such as
infrastructure, operations and maintenance and tariff.

Addressing the workshop, Local Government, Rural Development and
Cooperatives (LGRD) additional secretary Roxana Quader highlighted the
importance of WASH financing for pro-poor, sustainable and accountable
services.

Dr Valeria de Oliveira Cruz, WHO acting country representative,
congratulated the Bangladesh government for taking timely and necessary task
of producing the national WASH accounts and expressed WHO’s commitment for
further supporting the WASH sector in Bangladesh.

UNICEF country representative Edouard Beigbeder also spoke at the
workshop.
