Court accepts chargesheet in Holey Artisan case

DHAKA, August 08, 2018 (BSS)- Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal in Dhaka today accepted the chargesheet against eight militants in a case filed over the 2016 militant attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan.

Judge Mujibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal passed the order after hearing the charges brought against them.

The court ordered the release of former private university teacher Hasnat Reza Karim, whose name was dropped from the chargesheet submitted on July 23, from police custody.

Among the eight charge-sheeted accused, six are now in jail. The court has issued arrest warrant against the two fugitive accused — Shahriful Islam alias Khaled and Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon.

The court asked officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station to submit a report on the execution of the arrest warrant on August 16.

According to the police, a total of 21 people were involved in that attack. Among them, 13 including five terrorists, have died during raids, six are under arrest and two are still on the run.

Six suspects who are currently behind bars are – Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Gandhi, Rashed alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz, Rakibul Islam Reagan, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan, and Hadisur Rahman Sagor.

Twenty-two people, including 17 foreigners and two policemen, were killed by five terrorists in the attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery and O’ Kitchen restaurant in the capital’s diplomatic zone on the evening of July 1, 2016.
