RANGPUR, Nov 7, 2017 (BSS) – The government has completed distribution of special agri-incentives in terms of seed and fertilisers worth over Taka 15.72 crore among 1.40-lakh flood-hit farmers of Rangpur division.
Officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DA) at its regional office said distribution of incentives have already been completed to assist flood-hit farmers for cultivation of eight varieties of crops to recoup losses caused by recent floods.
Each of the beneficiary farmers got five to 20-kg seed of different crops, 10 to 20-kg Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 5 to 15-kg Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilisers free of costs to cultivate crops on one bigha of land.
Deputy Director of the DAE regional office Md Moniruzzaman said here the distributed incentives would assist 17,418 flood-hit farmers of Rangpur, 21,180 of Gaibandha, 24,699 of Kurigram, 14,724 of Lalmonirhat and 14,748 farmers of Nilphamari under Rangpur agriculture region.
Similarly, 18,510 flood-hit farmers of Dinajpur, 11,548 farmers of Thakurgaon and 17,012 farmers of Panchagarh districts under Dinajpur agriculture region in Rangpur division got the incentives.
Horticulture Specialist of the DAE Khondker Md Mesbahul Islam here said the government allocated 1,072 tonnes of seed, 2,620 tonnes of DAP and 1,353 tonnes of MoP fertilisers this time for distribution among flood-hit farmers of Rangpur division.
Under the programme, 840 tonnes of wheat seed, 103 tonnes of maize, 27 tonnes of mustard, 10 tonnes of groundnut, two tonnes of ‘Til’, 41 tonnes of mungbean, 47 tonnes of ‘Mashkalai’ and 5.28-kg of BT brinjal seed were distributed in the division.
“With the distributed incentives, the flood-affected farmers will cultivate wheat on 42,000 bigha of land, maize on 51,200 bigha and mustard on 27,000 bigha of land in the division,” he said. In addition to this, the flood- affected farmers will cultivate groundnut on 975 bigha of land, ‘Til’ on 1,800 bigha, mungbean on 7,400 bigha, ‘Mashkalai’ on 9,200 bigha and BT brinjal on 264 bigha of land.
Talking to BSS, Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the DAE Shah Alam said the incentives were distributed under the government’s post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programmes to assist the flood-hit farmers in recouping crop losses.
