‘Students’ role vital for resisting extremism, militancy’

RAJSHAHI, Aug 8, 2018 (BSS)-Role of youths and students in particular is
very vital for creating mass-awareness together with forging a social
resistance against extremism and militancy at higher educational
institutions, said speakers at a programme here on Tuesday.

They said the students should be groomed as social watchdog so that they
can contribute to the society and the nation positively.

They termed the young generation a vital power for the nation and viewed
they must be built as worthy citizens through enhancing their level of
confidence. Time has come to generate leadership characteristics among the
youths, they added.

They were addressing the inaugural session of a four-day “youth leadership
training for core member” in Postal Academy training room. CCD Bangladesh
organised the event in association with Democracy International Bangladesh.

Some 32 talented students from Rajshahi University, Rajshahi College,
North Bengal International University and Varendra University attended the
programme.

Main thrust of the training is to boosting peace, harmony and tolerance
among the participating youths through enhancing their leadership and
competence.

Superintendent of Police of City Special Branch Abu Ahmed Al Mamun,
Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Kalam Azad, Associate Professor
Selim Reja Neuton from Department of Mass Communication and Journalism in
Rajshahi University, CCD Project Coordinators Mehedi Hassan Tanveer and
Ayesha Siddiqua and Programme Officer Amzad Hossain addressed the session.

Al Mamun stressed the need for arranging leadership training for the
students for equipping them with modern knowledge for the sake of cherished
national development.

He viewed there is no alternative to generate community leadership among
the students to take forward the nation successfully and that is very
important to bring a qualitative change everywhere in the society.

He disseminated his expertise on various youth development issues and
mentioned that each of the youths should have commitment of building a
poverty-free and self-reliant Bangladesh.

Mamun viewed time has come to generate more and more students leadership in
the society for making them time-fitting social actor to free the society
from various crimes and malpractices like drug-addiction.
