3 fishermen feared drowned after ship hits fishing boat off southern Indian
coast

NEW DELHI, Aug 7, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least three fishermen were feared
drowned after their boat collided with a ship off the coast of Indian state
of Kerala on Tuesday, officials said.

The accident occurred off the coast of the southern state’s city of Kochi.

“The boat carrying 15 fishermen was hit by the ship this morning. The boat
was completely destroyed,” an official said.

While some fishermen have been rescued by nearby vessels, three are still
missing, he said. “Rescue operations are on,” the official added.

Local TV channels reported that the Indian Navy has pressed into service a
helicopter for the search and rescue of survivors. One Dornier aircraft has
also deployed, reports said.

“A probe has been ordered into the incident,” the official said.
