Rangpur will become a modern city: LGD secretary

RANGPUR, Aug 5, 2018 (BSS) – Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division (LGD) Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan has said Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) would be transformed into a modern, educated and science-based city corporation in future.

“Development of any area must be sustainable. A time-befitting educated society is prerequisite to attain sustainable development,” he said while addressing a views-sharing meeting held here on Saturday as the chief guest, a press release said today.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa presided over the meeting organised by RpCC at its conference room for its city councilors, officials, employees and development partners.

Panel Mayor Md Shamsul Haque, Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad, its Secretary Abu Saleh Mohammad Musa Jongi, Superintending Engineer Emdad Hossain and a number of City Councilors addressed the event.

On the same day, Dr Jafar also inaugurated the newly-built Kalur Ghat Bridge at Uttam Bawaipara area under Ward No- 2 and inspected construction works of the 18-storey City Centre Market Building of Zila Parisahd at a cost of Taka 450 crore in the city.

Dr Jafar said, “The rate of education in Rangpur is comparatively lower than many other regions. So why, proper emphasis should be on education for building a science-minded and well-educated society.”

He said, “Rangpur is a big city corporation where the central government as well as local government are working together to speed up development works and ensure civic amenities.”

“Before taking any development programme or work in Rangpur city, we have to think carefully in advance for building a planned city. Those who are working with foreign funds, they also have to be remain beside,” he said.

Chairman of Rangpur Zila Parisahd Advocate Chhafia Khanom and its Chief Executive Officer Nazmul Huda, Haragachh municipality Mayor Hakibur Rahman, LGED’s Additional Chief Engineer Afzal Hossain, Superintending Engineer Harun Ar Rashid and Executive Engineer Akhter Hossain attended the functions, among others.
