Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

DHAKA, Aug 5, 2018 (BSS) – Stock markets opened the week downtrend on Sunday as most of the major sectors closed lower while daily transactions were also declining.

The major losing sectors were insurance, engineering, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and tannery industries. A total of 166 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the first session of the week 42.77 points down at 5,357.03. The Shariah DSES and the DS30 also followed it the same trend with 9.87 points down at 1,252.23 and with 12.08 points down at 1,887.16.

The daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 659.22 crore from Thursday’s Taka 764.01 crore and the volume trading shares fell to 20.65 crore shares from the previous session 22.30 crore shares.

Among the traded 334 issues at DSE, 115 closed higher against 194 gaining issues.

The top five gaining companies were Regent Textile, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Provati Insurance, Popular Life and BGIC.

The major losing securities were Padma Life Insurance, KDSALTD, Libra Infusion, Apex Tannery and SEMLLECMF. FARCHEM topped the turnover list followed UPGDCL, Saiham Textile, PTL and Fu Wang Food.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened the week down, with its major CASPI index closing ended over 101.48 points down at 16,491.39. The volume trading in CSE was 9.12 crore shares and the trade value was Taka 23.02 crore.
