Cambodian man, British woman win int’l marathon at Angkor heritage site

PHNOM PENH, Aug 5, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) -A Cambodian man and a British woman took the honors in the fifth Khmer Empire Marathon, which was held at the complex of the Angkor archeological park in northwestern Cambodia’s Siem Reap province on Sunday.

Official results from the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) indicated that the men’s full marathon race was awarded to Cambodian Ma Viro in a time of two hours, 56 minutes and 24 seconds, while the women’s full marathon run was won by British Jill Hamill at the time of 3:06:58.

Tourism Minister and NOCC President Thong Khon said a total of 3,055 professional and amateur athletes joined the race in the distances of 42 km for a full marathon, 21 km for a half marathon, and a 10-km race as well as a 3-km fun run.

Some 1,655 of the runners are foreigners from 50 countries and regions, mostly from China, Japan and Malaysia.
