Traffic system to be brought under discipline: DMP Commissioner

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2018 (BSS) – Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah today announced the traffic week to be observed across the country from tomorrow aimed at ensuring discipline in the traffic management on the streets and highways.

“The traffic department has been asked to take stern action against the vehicles those have no fitness certificates and valid licenses and traffic rules violators,” he said this while announcing the traffic week at the DMP Media Center here.

Asaduzzaman said the traffic police would set up check posts at different points and check route permits, licenses, registrations and other related documents.

“If students of schools and colleges want to assist police to maintain traffic management, police will take support of girls guide and scout,” he said.

“From tomorrow police will maintain traffic rules strictly and I urge the students to go back to their schools. Police are doing their duties with sincerity and peacefully despite attacks on police personnel during the ongoing student protest,” he said.

Asaduzzaman said the traffic rules would be followed strictly and an amendment to the existing road transport law to be brought to ensure severe punishment to the errant drivers, he said adding that the tendency of violating traffic rules by influential’s would be dealt lawfully.

The Metropolitan Police, he said, has also taken various initiatives to improve the traffic system in the capital.
