6 killed, 25 injured in fatal road accident in Fiji

SUVA, Aug. 4, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) Six people were killed and 25 others
seriously injured in a road accident in Sigatoka on Saturday, a Fijian town
on the island of Viti Levu.

According to Fijivillage website, Fijian Police has confirmed the
accident, which took place near Nabou in Sigatoka where a five ton truck and
a private minibus had a head-on collision. The accident brought the road
death toll in the South Pacific Island nation for this year to 42 compared to
36 last year.

Fijian police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said that the six fatalities
included the truck driver and one of his passengers as well as the driver of
the minibus and three of his passengers.

The truck was delivering vegetables when it is alleged to have had a head-
on collision with the minibus that was overtaking. A private car also hit the
truck from behind.

Twenty-five people are currently receiving treatment after they were
seriously injured in the accident.

This is one of the most horrific accidents in recent times in Fiji.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
