Two held with 32 gold bars at Shahjalal airport

DHAKA, July 31, 2018 (BSS) – Members of preventive team of Dhaka Customs
House this morning arrested two and recovered 32 gold bars, weighing 3.712
kg, from their possessions at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The arrestees are passenger Hasan Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury, 47 and
driver of VIP passenger carrying car of US-Bangla Airlines, Md Arifuzzaman
Palash, 33.

“The US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-322 from Oman came here at 8am via
Chattogram. Chowdhury was a VIP class passenger of that flight and he was
being brought to International Arrival from the plane on the car. Acting on
tip off, we stopped the car and asked the passenger about gold bars. After
his refusal, we searched the vehicle and found the gold bars hidden inside
the leg rest area for the driver,” Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury of
Dhaka Customs House told BSS.

The customs official said they arrested the duo and seized the vehicle
as well.

“The estimated cost of the seized gold bars is Taka 1.86 crore. A case
has been lodged in this regard,” Othello added.
