Taliban, IS clash claims 4 lives in N. Afghanistan

SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, July 29, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least four
insurgents including three militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) were
killed in a clash with the Taliban flared up in Darzab district of northern
Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province on Sunday, district police chief Mohammad
Ismael said.

The clash, according to the official, erupted early on Sunday, after
Taliban fighters attacked IS positions in parts of the restive Darzab
district, forcing the rival militants to retreat.

According to the official, one Taliban fighter was killed and two others
were injured in the ongoing fighting and the “Taliban have captured vast
areas”, forcing IS fighters to flee.

IS militants are yet to make comment.

Fighting between Taliban and IS group has claimed some 300 lives from both
sides in Darzab and the neighboring Qush Tepa district over the past three
weeks, local officials said.
