Mongla Port Authority to collect mobile harbour crane

DHAKA, July 29, 2018 (BSS)- The Ministry of Shipping today signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saif Powertec Limited for purchasing a
mobile harbour crane for the Mongla Port.

“We are going to collect a mobile harbor crane for loading and unloading
containers to and from ships with efficiency,” said Shipping Minister
Shahjahan Khan at the signing ceremony at Secretariat.

Mongla Port Authority (MPA) Chairman Commodore AKM Faruque Hassan and
Managing Director of Saif Powertec Limited Tarafder Ruhul Amin signed the MoU
on behalf of their respective sides while Secretary of the ministry M Abdus
Samad was present.

The government has taken a set of development projects for gearing up
import and export activities through the port. Under the moves, the deal was
signed for purchasing the crane, said the minister.

“Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina it would be
possible to collect a mobile harbour crane after 68 years of founding the
port,” he said.

The Mongla Port, which was previously known as Chalna Port, was founded in
Bagerhat in 1950. It is now the second busiest seaport of the country.

Many international shipping companies have turned to Mongla as an
alternative due to increasing congestion in the country’s largest seaport in
Chittagong.
