Development activists call for free, fair and peaceful RCC election

RAJSHAHI, July 28, 2018 (BSS)- Large number of development activists, volunteers and social workers at a pre-human-chain and peace procession meeting have unequivocally called for free, fair and peaceful election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) scheduled to be held on Monday next.

They mentioned effective and meaningful election can be the vital means of fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the public in general including the voters concerned.

Shushashoner Janno Nagorik (Shujan) organised the programme at Alupatty Crossing in the city today for awareness of voters relating to the successful city corporation election.

Chaired by Shujan city unit president Pear Baksha, the meeting was addressed, among others, by central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarker, divisional coordinator Shashanka Baron Roy, area coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul, district unit president Ahmed Shafiuddin, vice-president Amanul Haque, city unit secretary Dr Hemayetul Islam and peace pressure group coordinator Mijanur Rahman.

Shujan leaders called upon the voters to elect honest and competent candidates in RCC polls to strengthen democracy and socio-economic development in the area.

They also urged the voters to boycott corrupts, terrorists, war criminals, repressors against women and children, drug-peddlers and loan defaulters in the election.

The meeting was told that some 31,221 new voters are likely to exercise their right of franchise in the upcoming RCC election.

Addressing the meeting some of them said they will cast their votes in favour of the candidate who will lead the city smartly.

“We will remain in favour of development of the city,” said youth leader Mustafizur Rahman Sajal. He expected that the election will fulfill hopes and aspirations of the city dwellers as a whole and the upcoming RCC council will work keeping it free from all sorts of corruption and irregularities.

More than 500 people comprising of voters in general, representatives from socio-cultural-professional bodies and human rights and development activists and volunteers took part in programme.
