World Hepatitis Day tomorrow
DHAKA, July 27, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh will join the global community in observing the World Hepatitis Day tomorrow for raising awareness against the deadly virus.
The day is observed every year on July 28 to increase awareness of different forms of hepatitis and methods of prevention and treatment.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Eliminate Hepatitis’ as envisioned in WHO’s first “Global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis 2016-2021”, and included as the final target for hepatitis in the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.
This year World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) fix the theme of the Day ‘Find the Missing Millions’, a three-year global awareness-raising and advocacy campaign aimed at tackling the main barriers on way to diagnosis by putting civil society organisations and the affected community.
In Bangladesh, government and different non-government organizations have chalked out various programmes, including seminars, a rally and health campaigns, to observe the Day.
President and Prime Minister issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
The National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh (NLFB) would organize free hepatitis B and C screening campaign at its office tomorrow.
NLFB conducted ‘Find the Missing Millions’ campaign on July 15 at Rangamati Government College and different places of Rangamati to mark the Day. They screened hepatitis B and C among 810 people of Chakma tribe and found most of them don’t know about viral hepatitis, said a press release here today.
Newspapers will publish special articles, while television and radio channels will air programmes highlighting significance of the day.
