Garment sector to progress despite global conspiracies: Amu

DHAKA, July 26, 2018 (BSS) – Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today expressed the hope that the progress of country’s readymade garment sector will be continuing despite international conspiracies.

“The readymade garment industry is one of the main areas of country’s economy. There were global conspiracies in the past against our readymade garment industry,” he said.

The industries minister was speaking as the chief gust at the inaugural function of expositions titled “Print Tech Bangladesh”, GarTex Bangladesh” and “Bangladesh Leather and Footwear (BLF) Expo” at the International Convention City, Bashundhara here, said a press release.

At present, Amu said, the competitors are active to prevent the export growth of apparel sector.

“However, they will not be able to stop the progress of the country’s industrial sector, including readymade garment industry,” he added.

Despite the conspiracies of the vested quarter, he said, Bangladesh has achieved second position for exporting the readymade garment products in the world.

“Bangladesh’s export earning from apparel sector was US$30.61 billion in 2017-18 financial year and $28.15 billion in 2016-17 financial year,” he added.

Bangladesh Indenting Agents Association (BIAA) President Muhammad Ayub presided over the function.
