5 Afghan intelligence officers killed in suicide bomb blast in Kabul

KABUL, July 26, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least five intelligence officers
were killed and four others injured after a Taliban suicide car bomb struck
their motor convoy in western part of capital city Kabul on Thursday morning,
police said.

“The incident occurred roughly at 4:45 a.m. local time in Bagh-i-Davod
neighborhood. The whole place has now been sealed off and the massive blast
also damaged several vehicles and nearby houses and shops,” witness Mohammad
Shafiq told Xinhua.

Hashmat Stanikzai, a Kabul police spokesman, told Xinhua that further
details will be shared with the media later in the day.

“The casualties were shifted to hospitals by ambulances and military
vehicles,” the witness added.

A thick black smoke was seen rise above the site and military helicopters
were hovering at the area after the explosion.

The Taliban militant group claimed responsibility shortly after the attack.

The capital city with a population of nearly 5 million has been hit by
series of terror attacks over the past couple of years.

On Sunday, 23 people were killed and 107 others wounded after an Islamic
State (IS) terrorist detonated his explosive jacket at a crowded traffic
circle outside the capital’s airport after a convoy of Afghan vice president
passed the area.
