WASHINGTON, July 25, 2018 (BSS) – Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has
requested the US administration to repatriate Rashed Chowdhury, a convicted
killer of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to face
justice in Bangladesh.

“The return of this convicted killer would create a tremendous amount of
goodwill about the United States among the people of Bangladesh,” Ali said.

The Bangladesh foreign minister made the request during his meeting with
Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan on Tuesday at the United States
Department of State in Washington, DC, an official release said here today.

Ali is visiting the US to take part in the high-level global meeting on
religious freedom on July 25-26. The US State Department is hosting the high-
level meeting.

The Bangladesh foreign minister also urged to mount pressure on Myanmar to
ensure dignified, safe and sustainable return of the forcibly displaced
Rohingyas.

In response, Deputy Secretary Sullivan assured that the United States would
continue to work with Myanmar government for their early repatriation,
saying, he is aware of the issue and the United States Department of Justice
is dealing with this.
